Clipper Run

Winnetou and Old Shatterhand leave Australia, after their adventure in the desert heart of the island continent, where they rescued Hobble-Frank; aboard Frick Turnerstick’s The Wind, an extreme clipper ship, namely one of the fastest opium clippers ever built, they are homeward bound, across the Pacific Ocean, to San Francisco. Their journey takes them to Tasmania, and then New Zealand where, lo and behold, they find old acquaintances, namely Lord Castlepool, no less, and his famous steam yacht. The meeting is short, but all the more cordial. After Dunedin, The Wind is heading for the Chatham Islands, where Winnetou and Old Shatterhand return an abducted young woman to her family. From there, the captain intends to set course straight for South America. But a wild storm causes damage to the clipper, and Frick Turnerstick is forced to head for Pitcairn Islands where repairs are made. A chance encounter with the captain of a French vessel, which suffered similar storm damage, results in yet another detour: namely to the Easter Islands. The French captain had informed the friends that a small steam yacht had sailed straight into the storm’s worst fury and that chances were slim for the vessel to have survived.
