The Matava-Se Chronicles

After the wedding fiesta in Mexico Old Shatterhand decides to return home to Germany. He makes his way to New York, where he acquires a passage across the Atlantic on the Steamer Seejungfer IV. Intrigued by the name of the vessel, Shatterhand enquires about the captain’s name and is surprised to learn that it is the same captain who more than a decade earlier captained the Seejungfer II, which took him, the young ‘greenfish’, to the New World for the first time. He is even more astonished when he learns that Don Carlos de Olsunna and his wife, Rosa, are also on board. One thing leads to another, and as the ship approaches Hamburg, Charles accepts an invitation to Castle Rheinswalden where he is given unprecedented access to the family library, with the objective to bring order into Don Carlos’ old journals that reveal the secret of how he received his Wild West name ‘Matava-Se’. Adventures of escaping grizzly bears, wolves, blizzards, Native Indians on the warpath, Mexican revolts, unearthing Mayan treasures, hunting elephants on Ceylon, as well as a lion in Egypt fill the journal pages; Old Shatterhand is amazed.
